Volunteering

We are an integral part of the Incline Village Community

AAUW Tahoe Nevada partners with many of our local organizations to improve the lives of residents of all ages:

  • Incline Education Fund (IEF)
  • Rotary Club of Incline Village
  • Incline Village Noon Rotary Club
  • Incline Village Crystal Bay Community and Business Association (IVCBA)
  • Incline Village General Improvement District (IVGID)
  • Incline Village Elementary, Middle, and High Schools
  • Incline Village Public Library

Here are some specific opportunities for you to get involved

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)

AAUW Tahoe Nevada members are actively involved in enhancing STEM education opportunities at Incline Elementary School and Incline Middle School.

Curiosity Club for elementary students

The goal of the Curiosity Club is to encourage elementary students to look at the world with wonder. This after-school program has a full range of science kits and demonstrations for hands-on learning. We also provide short “curiosity” lessons during lunch for the students who cannot remain after school. For more information and to get involved, please send a message to  STEM@tahoenvaauw.org.

Girls Who Code for middle school students

Girls Who Code prepares middle school girls for careers in emerging technology, ensuring that they keep in pace with a rapidly changing tech industry. Activities include programming, robotics, and artificial intelligence (AI). If you have experience in any aspect of technology, we need you. For more information and to get involved, please send a message to STEM@tahoenvaauw.org.

Career Technical Education (CTE)

AAUW Tahoe Nevada’s newest outreach program is focused on providing information on alternatives to traditional 4-year college degree programs, specifically to young women enrolled at Incline High School.  In partnership with our local Rotary Clubs, these lunch-time programs focus on 2-year associate degrees, certificate programs, exposure to training opportunities in the military, and finding apprenticeships. These kinds of non-traditional educational opportunities increasingly can lead to good paying jobs. We are always looking for speakers to share their career knowledge and experiences with high school students. For more information and to get involved, please send a message to CTE@tahoenvaauw.org.

Partnering with our Public Schools

AAUW Tahoe Nevada works closely with the Incline Education Fund (IEF) to enhance the educational experiences of students from kindergarten through high school. One of the programs that many of our members volunteer is the HOPA (Hispanic Outreach Personalized Approach) Program, designed to foster meaningful connections between the school’s Hispanic student population and local professionals.

Mentoring College Students

Each year, AAUW Tahoe Nevada awards up to three four-year scholarships for Incline High School girls to attend colleges and universities across the United States. Financial support for college is essential; however, first generation college students often need more support. Therefore, each of our scholarship recipient is assigned an AAUW member to serve as a mentor throughout their college career. For more information and to get involved, please send a message to scholarship@tahoenvaauw.org.

We are always looking for new volunteer opportunities in our community. If you have ideas, please reach out to president@tahoenvaauw.org.
