Thank you to our speakers and sponsors (UC Davis TERC). We had 14 wonderful young women join us for a fun filled day of learning, exposure to real careers, art, and science. We hope to have another STEM Day in the Fall of 2024.

AAUW STEM TREK DAY 2022
Incline Students, ages 12-18, please fill out a registration form to attend and we will get back to you on details. It is FREE, but we do have limited space. There will also be students from other Tahoe Basin areas. It is a fun morning at the Tahoe Environment Research Center in Incline Village, also known as the Tahoe Science Center at Sierra Nevada University.
Here is the schedule for June 4, 2022:
– 8:30-8:50am Arrive at TERC and register before 9am. No parents please, there is only enough room for girls and a few AAUW members. Parents are welcome to come in and register your daughters.
– 9:00am Aviation with Anna Serbinenko, pilot, mathematician, and studying Astronautics. Anna joins us remotely. She will show a video of her acrobatic flying and tell us about leaving Ukraine to study math at college in Switzerland, then starting a flight school in Canada. Girls can meet her at the Truckee Air Show in July! You may write cards to Ukraine and Anna will get them delivered. We supply the cards and art supplies.
– 10:15am Break with snacks and drinks provided
– 10:30am Technology of the Tahoe Keys Test. Current controversial project to remove aquatic weeds with herbicides. Women scientists from Lahontan Water Board and League to Save Lake Tahoe tell us about the project and the technology to keep Tahoe safe.
– 11:30am In small teams with a teacher, create a Never Before Seen Marina to provide Lake access without environmental harm. Each team gives a 2-minute report of their ideas.
– 12 noon Closing and evaluation.
– 12:10-12:30 Parents pick up girls, no lunch is provided.
Each girl will receive a STEM Learning Journal for notes and to learn about the presenters and projects. It’s All Free!
