Career Technical Education (CTE) Outreach Program
October 2024
We began our initial work with Incline High School to provide CTE education to
students.. This new outreach program is focused on providing information on alternatives to
traditional 4-year college degree programs, specifically to young women enrolled at Incline High School. Such programs might include 2-year associate degrees, certificate programs, exposure to training opportunities in the military, finding apprenticeships, or entering Career Technical Education (CTE), as some of many options available to them. These kinds of non-traditional educational opportunities increasingly can lead to good paying jobs. This Outreach effort in no way will detract from our AAUW Tahoe Nevada’s longstanding college scholarship program. But this outreach effort will allow women who may never go to a traditional 4-year college to have successful careers and can enable them to meet their full potential.
Our first lunch time event will be held on November 7th at Incline High
School and will feature information on opportunities in the medical field that do not
require a college degree. Ellen Bjorkman, Director of Operations at Incline
Community Hospital will be the featured speaker.
We are still looking for volunteers to be part of our CTE Outreach committee to help
us plan future lunchtime speakers and support the end of year award process. If you
are interested in being part of our CTE efforts, email your name to
Peggy Poindexter: president@tahoenvaauw.org.
